Our Approach to Wellbeing
As a physiotherapist, the approach to Wellbeing is through the physical sense and how our body is moving, which is an indicator of how our mind is coping at the time. We can set up an individualised Wellbeing programme which could encompass; Breath work, Meditation, Biomechanical Approach, Myofascial Release, Fatigue Management. Or we can carry out separate treatment sessions in; Myofascial Release, Yoga and/or Meditation.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a soft tissue technique, which addresses the muscles and fascia in the body. It treats aches and pains by releasing the restrictions from injuries, trauma, anxieties and poor posture. It aims to make the body more pliable again to allow more free flowing movements. It can also address the emotional and psychological effects of trauma/injury by a technique called unwinding.
We treat and successfully manage a large array of conditions including but not limited to;
- Poor posture
- General aches and pains
- Chronic back pain
- Neck stiffness
- Stiff hips
- Fibromyalgia
What to Expect
The first session would be a postural assessment where we look at the way you stand and move. From this we identify areas of tightness that require releasing, specific to the individual and their needs.
For a treatment you will be required to lie down in a comfortable position on the treatment bed. Releases can be performed in any area of the body from the head to the foot.
Some people may feel discomfort as the soft tissues in your body releases, this can be adjusted to suit your tolerance levels.
The technique is safe for the body and when the therapist stops any discomfort subsides and the body feels freer. Sessions can be booked for 60 or 90 minutes.
Yoga
1:1 sessions are designed specifically for you or classes can be arranged for specific needs (e.g. MS, Parkinson’s, Fibromyalgia, chronic pain etc) or for general exercise and Well-Being.
It can be purely using the postures and breath for your needs or can go into a deeper knowledge and understanding of yoga.
Working on alignment through Yoga addresses aches and pains and builds strength and fluidity of movement which allows the body and then the mind to be in a state of ease. Meditative techniques and breath work (Pranayama) can help anxiety, stress, fatigue and sleep issues. A deeper knowledge can aid lifestyle changes enhancing well-being.
