Cecil came to us, following a stroke, that left him with left sided weakness.
He had been discharged from hospital, with the prognosis was that he had reached the end of his rehab potential, and was without further community support. This had a huge impact on his mood and quality of life.
When Cecil approached Orchid Rehab, we explored standing and functional activities to treat the impact of the stroke. During sessions we also found ways to alleviate his longstanding back and hip pain.
We developed an appropriate routine of stretches, strengthening and core work to improve his midline and left side awareness. Over time, Cecil was able to progress to sitting in his favorite chair, then being able to sit safely in a powered wheelchair which gave him some independence and allowed him to explore his hobbies, like photography ? and watching his dog running about on walks. ?
After a long wait, Cecil was finally able to procure an adapted van to get out and about, which enabled him to achieve a significant milestone and improving his quality of life.
Cecil says of his rehab journey with Orchid Rehab
“Without Helen, I would not have been able to progress from the bed, to the wheelchair and take part in normal family activities. I’m hoping in time, with Helen’s help, to get sufficiently use in my left hand to operate a Camara.” ?
